Governor Rounds’ Teacher Leadership Conference (TLC) is set for October 5-7, 2008, at the Ramkota in Pierre.

In 2008, the Governors New Teacher Academy and TLC will be combined into one event.

Those invited to attend the TLC 2008 include:

• New to the profession teachers who have completed their first or second contract year (full or partial) of teaching in a South Dakota school during the 2007-2008 year. Teachers with up to five years of experience will also be accepted.
• Facilitating teachers who have been recognized as a SD Teacher of the Year (TOY) and/or current Regional TOY; Milken Educator; National Board Certified Teacher or current advanced candidate; Native American History Teacher of the Year; ESA selected teacher leader; and recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

TLC 2008 Objectives:

• Gain understanding of 2010 Education Initiative progress;
• Celebrate teacher leadership accomplishments;
• Reflect on personal professional growth and the resulting influence on student achievement;
• Develop professional relationships to achieve common educational goals; and
• Participate in activities that promote educational excellence throughout the state.
