| Overview This school
year, 2006-2007, the state of South Dakota will once again
subsidize Advanced Placement test fees for qualified students
through the federal Advanced Placement Incentive Program (APIP).
The APIP expands the Advanced Placement Fee Reduction Program
currently offered by the College Board. The APIP will enable
eligible South Dakota students to take advanced placement
exams at no expense to themselves.
This year the total Advanced Placement (AP) test fee is $83
per test, out of which the administering school waives its $8
administration fee, the College Board waives $22 of its total
fee, and the state of South Dakota will pay the remaining $53
to the College Board.
How It Works
The APIP piggybacks on the College Board's existing Fee
Reduction Program.
Each year, AP coordinators receive a packet of forms and
instructions from the College Board. If a student is enrolled
in an AP course and is eligible for the College Board's Fee
Reduction Program, the state of South Dakota will pay that
student's $53 test fee balance after the administering school
and the College Board waive $8 and $22, respectively, from the
total test fee. The process is such that:
AP coordinators should list total fee reduction tests on
the test order form provided by the College Board, list the
total number of fee reduction tests on the shipping and
remittance form, and return the forms to the College Board.
AP coordinators should also keep a list of students
scheduled to receive fee reductions.
The College Board will bill the state of South Dakota
directly for each eligible student's $53 test fee balance.
The eligible student and the administering school do not
pay any test fee at all for the eligible student to take the
test(s).
Tests signed up for but not taken by eligible students
will not be reimbursed; they are the responsibility of the
student and/or school.
Fee Waiver Eligibility
Schools are responsible for determining each student's
eligibility for this program. The program is open to all
public and non-public students. Eligible students are those
who are enrolled in an advanced placement class sometime
during the current academic year and meet free and reduced
criteria.
