This CEIS guidance represents the Department’s current thinking on this topic. It does not create or confer any rights for or on any person. This guidance does not impose any requirements beyond those included under applicable laws and regulations.

If you are interested in commenting on this guidance, please email your comments to OSERSguidancecomments@ed.gov and include CEIS in the subject of your email or write us at the following address: Patricia Guard, U.S. Department of Education, Potomac Center Plaza, 550 12th Street, SW, room 4108, Washington, DC 20202.

If you have questions, please contact Special Education Programs office at the South Dakota Department of Education at 605-773-3678.

Coordinated Early Intervention Services utilizing South Dakota State and Local Dollars

A school district may use up to fifteen percent of the local need, as defined in SDCL 13-37-35.1(18), to develop and implement coordinated early intervening services. Coordinated early intervening services may be provided to students in kindergarten through grade twelve who are not currently eligible for special education and related services pursuant to chapter 24:05:24.01 but need additional academic and behavioral interventions to be successful in general education and to avoid being classified as a student with a disability.

Application for South Dakota State and Local CEIS application is separate from the IDEA Federal Flow Through Fund Application.
Please use the following forms for the district application:
State and Local CEIS Application
State and Local CEIS Budget
