Save items by Sept. 1
For school year 2011-12, South Dakota will have a new assessment tool within eMetric that allows educators to do more. This system will replace the Achievement Series. Please alert your staff that they need to save any items they want from the Achievement Series before Sept. 1.
Dakota STEP results online
2011 Dakota STEP results are now posted on the eMetric website. This site is designed to provide quick and easy access to student performance results on the State Test of Educational Progress, or Dakota STEP.
Board adopts standards for teaching American Indian history, culture
On July 25, the South Dakota Board of Education adopted the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings and Standards outlining core concepts for teaching the history and culture of South Dakota’s American Indian people.
Content standards approved
At its July 25 meeting, the South Dakota Board of Education approved new standards for Personal Finance and World Language. The board also approved voluntary standards and guidelines for school libraries.
Changes to state writing assessment for 2011-12
Based on feedback from the field, several changes have been made to the state writing assessment, WriteToLearn, for the 2011-12 school year. Fewer submissions will be required, and there will be just one testing window.
New public school exemption form, procedure
Beginning in school year 2011-12, districts should be using the new Public School Exemption form and procedure, which has changed due to legislation passed during the 2011 session.
