Have your say on Smarter Balanced
achievement levels


This process will allow an online panel of up to 250,000 K-12 educators, higher education faculty, parents and others to participate virtually in recommending achievement levels. Apply by Sept. 19.
 
 
 
 
Educators participate in Smarter Balanced Digital Library workshop

More than 40 South Dakota educators have submitted and reviewed resources for the Smarter Balanced Digital Library. In July, 12 of them participated in a workshop that brought together educators from across the country.

 
 
 
 
State content standards under review

Read proposed standards and submit public comment:

    • Fine arts
    • K-12 technology
    • Physical education
    • Science

All proposed standards receive four public hearings at South Dakota Board of Education meetings, where individuals may also give public comment.


 
 
 
 
$1,500 scholarships available for teachers pursuing National Board Certification

Apply by Sept. 15 for your chance at one of 10 scholarships. Priority will be given to educators teaching in Priority and Focus schools.Deadline extended to Oct. 1.

 
 
 
 
Teacher shortage areas designated for 2014-15

The U.S. Department of Education has designated teacher shortage areas in South Dakota for the 2014-15 school year. These designations may qualify borrowers for deferment or forgiveness of some federal loans.

 
 
 
 
Updated data available in SDMyLife

Students logging into SDMyLife this fall will have access to the latest career demand and wage data. These data reflect the recently updated 2012-2022 South Dakota Employment Projections provided by the Department of Labor & Regulation.

 
 
 
 
Students receive Critical Teaching Needs scholarships

This state scholarship supports future educators who agree to serve in critical-need teaching areas in South Dakota.
