FRAMEWORK AND TOOLKIT | TIMELINE | TOOLKIT | CONTACT

Service Learning is a flexible method of teaching and learning that applies academic and real-world skills to create meaningful youth-led experiences with community partnerships. The goal of service learning is to empower youth to become engaged in their personal, social and working lives.

TIMELINE

Beginning in school year 2013-14, SD high schools must offer a Capstone Experience (Senior Experience, Youth Internship or Entrepreneurship Experience) OR Service Learning. Not all of the options have to be offered, though a school could choose to offer them all, or several, if they wish. For more information, visit: doe.sd.gov/octe/capstone.aspx. State graduation requirements can be found at: doe.sd.gov/octe/gradrequirements.aspx.
