Coordinated School Health - Physical Activity and Nutrition Policy

 CONTACT

All schools participating on the federally funded National School Lunch program are required to develop and implement wellness policies that address nutrition and physical activity. The wellness policy must address four components:
1.) Nutrition Education,
2.) Physical Activity,
3.) Other School Based Activities, and
4.) Nutrition Standards for All Foods Served.
The South Dakota Board of Education approved a model wellness policy as guidance for schools to follow. Training, technical assistance and resources are available to schools to assist them with assessing, improving and implementing local policy.
